In an age dominated by visual communication, almost all of which relies on photographs, understanding the picture editing process is vital for understanding the role of photography in today's society. Informations are flooded through mass-media. But readers are so busy to get all the information that they are inclined to seek the truth by looking a piece of photograph rather than reading a long article. The newspaper photographs opened up it's own territory from 'Reading news' to 'Watching news' - that conveys and shows exact appearances and backgrounds of the things or occurrences that are difficult to be explained only by articles. and so newspaper photographs become an essential tool of massmedia. Photojournalism, which is a core part of communication, has abled to develop rapidly owing to the fact that image is far more effective than words in terms of communication effect. Picture editing is very important on newspaper. Therefore the purpose of this study is to look into the picture editing. Picture editing is a process in which, according to defined aims or requirement, photographs are selected and assembled from various sources in order to produce an illustrated publication, broad or exhibition. The heart of picture editing is what the principles and the techniques of picture selection are. Pictures may have to be cropped to size, scanned to produce digital files for publication, and reprinted specifically for an exhibition. Cropping is the removal of edge portion of a photograph to improve it or to enable it to fit into a given space. The selection of a small number of photographs and illustrations from a choice of possibly hundreds is generally recognized as the core skill of picture editing. Fine picture editors can ensure that a publication is stunningly well illustrated with innovative and attention-catching photography that illuminates and excites the viewer. In this thesis, I examined the history of newspaper and basic editing methods. I compared newspaper photographs with traditional theories. I found that there were many problems in newspaper photographs. Picture editing exercise will be aimed at completing a specific project. Picture editor have to play a role in 'gate keeper'. Fine picture editing works glove - on - hand with page design. As photography flowers into its digital renaissance, readers and photographers alike need a new generation of great picture editors to lead the way.

This study is for considering the present state of our elementary textbook, and for offering some advanced suggestions. Therefore analyzing and comparing Japan elementary school textbook on design elements such as illustration, photography and layout was conducted.First step was an interdisciplinary and textbook system in Japan is examined because the textbook policies and systems will affect the design elements of the textbook. And for this study, we extracted and suggested the design characteristics of Japan elementary textbook, analyzed and compared those with Korean text book.Researching, Japanese language textbook by constructing a vertical letter plate could be seen a tendency to focus on the characteristics and traditions of the Japanese. The text body is unique, depending on the textbook publishers (textbook Ming-style font, Gwangchon Gothic type, etc.) using the effort was made to improve the readability of the text. In the page layout, such as single stage or in multiple columns, bold layout and using the proper margins could be seen. The number of photographs and illustrations were few compared to the Korean textbook, but the composition of production, and resolution of the picture had excellent in quality. Also There were many excellent illustrations outstanding personality. Decorative images suchas icon were smaller than in Korean textbook, usually a simple and consistent expressions that were being used more effectively for the users.

Currently, digital map is being produced as a national base map with a variety of purposes, but not only does it bring about enormous temporal and economical loss, since it is produced according to various kinds of topics and scales, but also has several problems including accuracy of data and consistency of data construction. * A Thesis for the degree of Master of Engineering in August, 2011 From 1998, to deal with these problems, the National Geographic Information Institute has converted a large-scale digital map into a small-scale digital map using digital map 1.0. As the result, algorithm analysis and priority for editing and reducing digital map were drawn from digital map 1.0. After that, also, algorithm analysis for editing and reducing it was drawn too from digital map 2.0 which eliminated structural contradiction of digital map 1.0 and added property information. However, there is very little research on edition and reduction of digital map using high-resolution digital aerial photograph which has been produced from 2006. This study was therefore designed to analyze the correlation between topography and natural features to edit and reduce a digital map using high-resolution digital aerial photograph(GSD 0.25m). Based on these analysis results, then, characteristics of change in data edited and reduced using high-resolution digital aerial photograph were analyzed by entering data according to the working process of edition and reduction, arranging and eliminating categories of topography and natural features, editing and inspecting data treated and analyzing accuracy of outcome edited and reduced. In conclusion, these results will make a contribution to the national economy by helping to quickly and accurately produce small-scale digital map and automation map.

This study was conducted to provide a plan of generalizing (downsizing and editing) a 1/5,000 numerical map into a 1/25,000 numerical map, which was produced by using high-resolution digital aerial photographs. Therefore, this study analyzed the previous researches on the classification systems, data forms and characteristics and attribute items of numerical maps, and also analyzed algorithms applied to the generalization of numerical maps, such as simplification, smoothing and single-line processing. Based on the results of analyzing the previous researches, this study deleted layers that were not included in the 1/25,000 numerical map to generalize the numerical map 2.0 designed by using GSD 0.25mm digital aerial images into a 1/25,000 numerical map 2.0. Besides, this study also arranged geographic features, such as traffic, buildings, facilities and vegetation, to make the map fit for the expression standard. Through the outcome of the 1/25,000 numerical map after generalization and the coordinate test of the existing 1/5,000 numerical map 2.0, this study conducted an error check and compared the number of geographic features to analyze the effectiveness. With the result of this study, it was found that the generalized map shows exact results within the accuracy range of the 1/5,000 numerical map 2.0 and expresses more accurately than the existing numerical maps.

The healthy society consists of conservative and progressive parties in equilibrium.Chosun and Hankyoreh have been showing their contrastive engagement in last 20 years, after publication of Hankyoreh in 1988.In this paper the design factors are only studied to the exclusion of positive or negative aspects of conservatism and progressivism. It wasn¡¯t so critical to find out their philosophy in fields of design. In consequence of this study to define conservatism and progressivism of layout design in daily newspaper, Chosun has been insisting to keep his traditional, historical philosophy till today even in (Layout-) design sector and Hankyoreh has been keeping on his progressive idea as like as his text articles. The title, using fonts, position and size of photographs and each distribution have in two newspapers quite different tendency. The remarkable high circulation of Chosun leads to advertisements in much more portion than Hankyoreh. The high circulation and high portion of advertisement in a newspaper are economically correct. But it means that Korean society is too much conservative in other hands.
