From a convergence perspective of production technology structure, this study measured the level of linkage between manufacturing and service industries and analyzed the effect of convergence on manufacturing production. As main findings, firstly, the strong linkage between manufacturing and knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS) mostly has a positive impact on the manufacturing production. Secondly, the effect of convergence depends on the technology level of manufacturing and the sub-industries of KIBS. Thirdly, the impact of convergence between manufacturing and KIBS is heterogeneous across regions. Therefore, manufacturing-service convergence should be pursued by considering the technology level of manufacturing and the sub-industries of KIBS.

This paper uses wavelet analysis to study how the correlation between manufacturing production and employment in South Korea has changed across time and frequencies. We find that in the business-cycle frequencies, the sign of correlation coefficients between the two variables has shifted from negative in the 2000s to positive in the 2010s. This change in correlation at the aggregate level has been driven by some groups of workers, including men, old people, college graduates, regular workers, managerial/professional/office workers, and by some industries, such as food and beverage, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, rubber, plastics and non-metals, and automobiles.

Manufacturing Information System is a information system which supports the activities such as production planning, workflow management, work stage control. Manufacturing fields are showing new properties in today such as digital information, globalization, integration, to make sophisticated production. In this paper, we descibe major issues in current systems. Eventually, we propose major factors to adapt for new changes and BI systems to support manufacturing production information system based on the major factors.

Investments in factory automation do not guarantee productivity enhancement. Much unknown losses may exist in all aspects of production resources such as in material, manpower, machine, etc. Total productivity in korean firms has decreased in recent years. Labor and capital productivity index fall to 0.82 point and 0.73 point, respectively. Investment in FA has Increased rapidly. Tangible fixed assets per capita increased 64% during the past Three years. But, this high-technology oriented systems such as NC, robotics, CAD/CAM, FMS, etc. are often out of keeping with the old production process control, and thus do not result in satisfactory performance. This review paper concerned with these problems and suggests some future directions for production control and development strategy of korean firm's.
