The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning and directions of case management at the Community Social Welfare Center. With a special focusing on the value and perspectives of case management, multi-case qualitative research has been implemented to answer the two key research questions, the meaning and directions of social welfare case management practices. Collecting data through in-depth interview with 4 case managers from Community Social Welfare Center, the study found four different main themes regarding meaning of case management practices, such as ¡®Establishing a human perspective¡¯, ¡®Bringing our own strengths¡¯, ¡®Expanding boundaries¡¯, ¡®Working toward broader community context.¡¯ Regarding future directions of case management practices, the participants shared another four core themes, ¡®Addressing the value of case managers¡¯, ¡®Roles of supervisors allowing the right direction¡¯, ¡®Establishing broader working relationships¡¯, and ¡®Work autonomy, rather than reducing case-loads.¡¯ Based on the major findings of the study, authors suggested the necessity of customized training for managers and supervisors, establishment of unique strengths of community welfare centers, ways to integrate the different functions of the center, and the efforts for client-centered approaches.

The fundamental cause of much of the confusion in case management practice is its lack of definition. This study analyzes the presentation of the case management concept in the literature and its definition in order to identify the issues related to these definitions. In analyzing the literature relating to the case management concept since the 1980s, I find that it has not been a regular focus. The study results show that the case management concept has not appeared regularly in the analysis of the related literature. Among the major issues of case management that do not appear regularly, the first concerns whether the term case management is valid or not.The second concerns whether more emphasis is placed on the supply of direct service or on that of indirect service, or whether it is desirable to integrate both services. Third, the relationship between case management and social work practice is analyzed. Further research is necessary on these concepts, case management and the related issues, with consideration for the domestic environment and the orientation of social work practice.

A Descriptive Study on Monitoring the Implementation of Case Management for Persons with Chronical Mental IllnessSo-young MinThis study described the critical ingredients in monitoring case management implementation for the persons with chronical mental illness in the community mental health centers. The survey and interviews were conducted to the 48 Model-type community mental health centers. Three major case management approaches have been found among the community mental health centers: rehabilitation-oriented, strengths-oriented, and linking-oriented approaches. Even though centers identified themselves as utilizing different approaches, there were found similarities among 48 community centers in terms of characteristics of clients, staffing, organization, and services: a high client-to-staff ratio, a majority of an individual approach to clients, the small number of in vivo contacts with clients in their homes and in community settings, and the provision of comprehensive but not-to-be-reached-out services.This study discussed a case management model which can be adopted in the community mental health centers in Korea. The purpose of this study was to examine the explanatory factors of case manager roles in special education support centers by making a factor analysis among the subfactors of three selected dimensions that were expected to explain case manager roles on the assumption that there would be a clear distinction among the three dimensions. The subjects in this study were 170 case managers who worked in special education support centers in our country. A survey was carried out to find out the relationship of the factors affecting job performance. The major findings of the study were as follows:As a result of investigating the influential factors of case manager role determination, role awareness, role performance, job characteristics, job performance skills, working conditions and job awareness were identified as the influential factors out of the job-related factors. Among the institutional and organizational factors, support from the institutions, the climate of the institutions and the characteristics of the institutions turned out to be the influential factors. In terms of the personal factors, self-efficacy, professionalism, job confidence and achievement motivation were found to be the influential factors. When a multiple regression analysis was conducted to grasp the factors affecting the job performance of the case managers, job confidence, the characteristics of the institutions, self-efficacy and role awareness were identified as the significant explanatory factors in terms of educational support. Self-efficacy, working conditions, professionalism, job awareness and the characteristics of the institutions were found to be the significant explanatory factors in terms of educational service. The climate of the institutions, support from the institutions, role awareness, professionalism and job performance skills turned out to be the significant explanatory factors in terms of vocational career guidance. The characteristics of the institutions, professionalism and job awareness were identified as the significant explanatory factors in terms of related services.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to validate the Needs Assessment Tool for Case Management (NATCM) for use with Korean medical aid beneficiaries. Methods: Psychometric testing was performed with a sample of 645 Korean medical aid beneficiaries, which included 41 beneficiaries who were selected using proportional sampling method, to examine intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Data were evaluated using item analyses, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), Cronbach's alpha, and ICC. Results: Through psychometric testing the final version of NATCM was found to consist of two subscales: 1) Appropriateness of Health Care Utilization (5 items) and 2) Self Care Ability (6 items). The two subscale model was validated by CFA (RMSEA=.08, GFI=.97, and CFI=.93). Internal consistency measured by Cronbach's alpha was .82, and subscale reliability ranged from .79 to .84. The ICC of the NATCM between case managers was .73 and between case managers and health care professionals. .82. Conclusion: This study suggests that the final version of NATCM is a brief, reliable, and valid instrument to measure needs of Korean medical aid beneficiaries. Therefore, the NATCM can be effectively utilized as an important needs assessment as well as outcome evaluation tool for case management programs in Korea.

Purpose: This study was conducted to understand the trend in research by analyzing previous studies related to the case management of Medicaid and to explore the direction of future research. Methods: Thirty three studies conducted from January 2003 to June 2015 were analyzed according to characteristics of researchers and subjects, research methods, measurable variables, and key words. Results: Of the studies analyzed, 69.7% were conducted on Medicaid beneficiaries, and 65.6% were conducted on the group of high risk for over medical utilization. The mainly used research design was a survey study design, which was 51.5% of them, followed by experimental (24.2%), and qualitative (12.1%) study design. Most frequently measured variables were medical utilization (62.5%), needs for case management (41.7%), and health status (25.0%). The topics most frequently studied were related to medical utilization, effect of case management, self-care, and program development in Medicaid beneficiaries and job and socio-psychological factors in case managers. Conclusion: The future direction of nursing research in Medicaid case management is to be vitalized through the expansion of the research population, and concretization and diversification of the research topics. In addition, conduct of further studies on intervention strategies and contents for improving quality of case management program is also needed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a substantive theory of case management (CM) practice by investigating the experience of nurse case managers caring for Medical Aid enrollees in Korea. Methods: A total of 12 nurses were interviewed regarding their own experience in CM practice. Data were recorded and analyzed using grounded theory. Results: Empowerment was the core category of CM for Medical Aid enrollees. The case managers engaged in five phases as follows, phase of inquiring in advance, building a relationship with the client, giving the client critical mind, facilitating positive changes in the client's use of healthcare services, and maintaining relationship bonds. These phases moved gradually and were circular if necessary. Also, they were accelerated or slowed depending on factors including clients' characteristics, case managers' competency level, families' support level, and availability of community resources. Conclusion: This study helps understand what CM practice is and how nurses are performing this innovative CM role. It is recommended that nurse leaders and policy makers integrate empowerment as a core category and the five critical CM phases into future CM programs.

The coastal zone is the transitional area between land and sea. It plays an important role in the land-sea ecosystem. Unfortunately, most of the world's coastal areas are polluted due to the human being activities. Pollution and development are changing coastal habitats, and feeding and nursery areas are being destroyed, reducing fish and wildlife populations. The pollution in coastal areas is becoming a global environmental problem, more and more attention has been paid to coastal areas. America passed the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA) in 1972, and from then, CZMA outlined and conducted the National Coastal Zone Management Program and the National Estuarine Research Reserve System which including 34 projects. And England established "the Crouch & Roach Estuary Project" in 2003, and "South East Coastal and Marine Project" was started in 2007 in responding to the non-point pollutants challenge.

The current study aimed to (1) evaluate burnout and (2) identify factors affecting burnout of social welfare officials and case managers in the public sector. A cross-sectional online survey was performed from August to September 2021. The survey included questions about burnout, job environment, job resources, and demographic characteristics. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, t-tests, and two separate multiple regression analyses were conducted. A total of 238 respondents (96 social welfare officials and 142 case managers in the public sector) were included in the analysis. The results showed that social welfare officials had higher levels of burnout than case managers in the public sector. The study results showed that greater role conflict was associated with increased burnout in social welfare officials, while greater role ambiguity and role overload were associated with increased burnout in case managers in the public sector. Among the coping resources, job enthusiasm was found to have a negative effect on burnout for both social welfare officials and case managers in public sector, and ego-resilience had a significant negative effect on burnout for case managers in the public sector. Our findings revealed that factors affecting burnout may differ between social welfare officials and case managers in the public sector. Findings implies that tailored approaches are needed to prevent or reduce burnout of social welfare officials and case managers in the public sector.
