ise that text and pictures are important in picture book reading. It beginson how to improve young children's literacy and ability to read pictures. The research problems are toknow the characteristics of visual thinking and to find teaching strategies for reading picture bookthrough visual thinking. Reading pictures in a picture book is exploring, interpreting, and criticizing thebook. In order to understand the picture reading process, one needs to know about visual thinkingactivities and to teach reading pictures based on the characteristics of visual thinking characteristics. Thecharacteristics of visual thinking characteristics in Arnheim¡¯s were found theory about reading pictures.Arnheim¡¯s visual thinking theory is a significant one in this field; It clearly explains visual thinkingcharacteristics. Thus it worked as a useful theoretical basis in finding teaching strategies in the variousmethods of reading pictures. This study intends to draw attention to the importance of reading picturesand, by elucidating the characteristics of visual thinking, to establish strategies of applying visual thinkingto picture reading. The application of visual thinking to picture reading Will enhance young children'sability to read pictures properly and eventually help them be well equipped with literary attainments.   (ÀÌÇÏ »ý·«)
