The purpose of this study is
to narrative therapy group counseling program for the children in an upper grade ofelementary school on the reduction of stress and the improvement of self-esteem. The hypotheses to be tested wereas follows. First, the narrative therapy group counseling program will reduce the stress of the children. Secondly, thenarrative therapy group counseling program will improve the self-esteem of the children. This study of 192 childrenin 5th grade attending OO elementary school located on Dong-gu of Daegu city, 24 students who were measured tohave a high level of stress in the pretest volunteered to participate in the program. To test the effectiveness of theprogram, we chose the experimental group and the control group through the pre-test before the program. 12students were randomly assigned in the experimental group and the other 12 students in the control group. Theprogram was conducted two times a week, each time taking 45 minutes and 12 sessions.The results show that narrative therapy group counseling program is effective to both decrease stress and improveself-esteem for children in 5 grade attending the elementary school. First, the narrative therapy group counselingprogram proved to be effective in reducing stress of the upper elementary school graders with a statisticalsignificance and the effects seemed to remain after that. Secondly, it was statistically proved that the narrativetherapy group counseling program was effective in improving self-esteem of the upper elementary school graders andthe effects remained after that. In conclusion, the narrative therapy group counseling program is effective in reducingstress and improving self-esteem for the children.   (ÀÌÇÏ »ý·«)
