The academic traditions since
the mid-Joseon period has beentaken an absolute position by Jujahak(neo-Confucian, ñ¹íùÊ), asextremely reverencing Juja. The scholar who regularly startedJujahak was Yi Hwang(ì°üÑ), and the King who was absorbed inJujahak was Jeongju(ïáðÓ). They wrote ?Jujaseojeolyo(ñ¹íßöï½é©)?and ?Juseobaekseon(ñ¹ßöÛÝàÔ)? respectively, which books have aclose correlation with each other. ?Jujaseojeolyo? was a book that Yi Hwang(1501¡1570) selectedas an important one among letters in ?Jujadaejeon(ñ¹íÓÞîï)?,which was 10 book of 20 volumes, published in 1558. Yi Hwangrealized the eternity of taste and loyalty therein while carefullyreading ?Jujadaejeon? with an interest in Seongrihak, particularlyamong them, he had much inspiration in the letters among them, which became the direct motive for publishing ?Jujaseojeolyo?.Juja's letters were 59 volumes 2,365 units, while ?Jujaseojeolyo?included 20 volumes 1,234 units of letters, therefore the quantitywas decreased with 2/3, while the number of units decreased byaround 1,100 units. Yi Hwang said that learning should start frommotivation and interest, in order to advance learning, saying thatthe most proper one was Juja's letters. ?Jujaseojeolyo? became thebestseller, which had been published for 7 times during the 40years since its first publication in 1561. Also, there were lots ofcommentaries on that. ?Juseobaekseon? was published by Jeongjo(1752¡1800) in1794, which was thee selection of Juja's 100 letters, based on ?Jujaseojeolyo?, which Yi Hwang already published. Jeongjo was theKing who was most absorbed in Jujahak (neo-Confucian), who said,"Juja is my teacher whom I respect" even before the publicationof this book. Since the publication of ?Juseobaekseon?, Jeongjoencouraged it to be published and distributed extensively in thecenter Gyujanggak(Ð¥íñÊÈ), Gamyeong(Êøç½) of province andgovernment office, aiming for establishment of Joseon of Jujahakby suggesting Jeonggyeong(ïáÌè), to correct destroyed style ofwriting(Ùþô÷) due to Myeongcheong Sopum(Ù¥ôèá³ù¡) andPaegwansoseol, etc. Yi Hwang and Jeongjo's efforts, this way, actually made the prie of Jujahak until the Late period of Joseonsince mid-Joseon period. As the result of comparison between the two books, 99 units of ?Juseobaekseon? were directly drawn from ?Jujaseojeolyo?, only1 of them was newly selected, also, it appeared that Jeongjo mostlywell succeeded Yi Hwang's editorial attitude and intention.   (ÀÌÇÏ »ý·«)
