This study conducts a critica
l analysis of Work Programme, the UK's new publicemployment service which has replaced the New Deal programmes. Particularly, it aimsto criticize that Work Programme accelerates the marketisation of public welfare servicesand the terminalisation of the nonprofit sector unlike the Big Society discourses of theConservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government. Drawing on diverse administrativeand statistical data, it examines the characteristics of the Work Programme's deliverysystem and indicates some drawbacks of the delivery system such as supermarketisationof prime contractors, marginalisation of nonprofits, client parking and creaming, andgovernment's failure in control and coordination. In conclusion, it discusses severalpolicy lessons that need to be considered in contracting out public welfare services. (ÀÌÇÏ »ý·«)
