정상적으로 발달하는 아동들은 일정 시기가 되면 자발적으
로 옹알이, 사회적 미소, 눈맞춤 등을 하게 되고, 주 양육자 및 타인과의 상호작용을 통해 자연스럽게 대인관계 능력이 성장되어 나간다. 그러나 자폐장애 아동은 초기 사회성 기능 및 언어능력의 결함으로 전반적인 영역의 발달지체를 동반하며, 특히 의사소통과 자기표현의 문제로 인하여 사회적 상호작용에 어려움을 겪게 되며, 이로 인해 신변처리나 일상생활의 적응이 매우 어렵다.
자폐장애 아동의 여러 특성으로 인하여 자폐장애 아동에
대한 치료적 접근은 정서적ㆍ심리적인 면에서 아동을 이해하기보다는 외현적으로 관찰될 수 있는 기능 수준의 정도에 따라 지시적이고 학습적․인지적 측면의 치료 접근이 우선시되기 쉽다. 아동의 개인차 및 전반적인 심리적, 정서적 발달상황을 고려하지 않은 구조적이고 일반화된 프로그램을 무리하게 적용했을 경우에는 아동이 본래 가지고 있는 기질적인 문제 이외에 또 다른 문제를 야기할 수 있는 원인을 제공할 수 있다. 지시적이고 권위적인 치료방법은 아동에게 순응을 요구하게 되고, 자발적인 욕구에 따라 창조적으로 살아갈 수 있는 능력을 저해할 수 있기 때문이다.
Children with autistic disord
er are characterized by the passive attitude caused by low voluntariness, the lack of emotional interaction and sociality due to a defect in communication, and inappropriate emotional expression. In order to improve this problem, the nondirective art therapy can reduce a sense of resistance in the subject children and is easy for access based on Viktor Lowenfeld\'s art developmental stage. This is the qualitative case study in order to examine the remedial influence and effects of the nondirective art therapy on social behavior and self-expression in a child with autistic disorder. The following are the results of the research of having been carried out based on this objective. First, in the social maturity that the nondirective art therapy measures children\'s development, the while development in research-subject children was enhanced. Second, the non-verbal behavior led to wholly improving speaking, facial expression, gesture, and eye contact. In addition, the verbal behavior led to showing many changes even in diverse demands and ostentation. Third, the more repetition in session led to a rise in voluntary behavior and request in treatment situation or daily life. During the period that the nondirective art therapy was carried out, the research-subject children can be known to have indicated a change in development of picture from the preschematic stage to the realism stage. Given synthesizing this fact, the nondirective art therapy can be known to have wholly positive effect on children\'s growth and development by inducing free self-expression and by reinforcing social behavior in children with autistic disorder who are low in voluntary activity and have difficulty in communication.
