The purpose of this study is
to improve the understanding of the gifted handicapped as sub-group of those who needs special education and to provide the basic rationals to develop educational intervention programs. Though the gifted handicapped needs special education, neither teachers for the handicapped or for the gifted/talented have been concerned about them. Therefore, the special education for the gifted handicapped need to be involved into formal special education and to be much more systematic in educational intervention than now.
In this study, researcher rev
iewed the definition of the gifted handicapped, prevalence and characteristics, the interaction of characteristics of the gifted and the handicapped, the identification of the gifted handicapped, and the types of the gifted handicapped and then tried to set up the rationals for designing appropriate educational intervention program.
Because the concerns of these
sub-group students, the gifted handicapped, are very low in Korea, it is not easy to set up and design educational intervention programs. So, the development of educational intervention program for the gifted handicapped is urgent in our school system.
In conclusion, in order to gr
ade up our special education, it is asked for to pay attention to the gifted handicapped which is the minority of those who need special education. (ÀÌÇÏ »ý·«)
