The trend in businesses is le
aning toward seeking talents who have the mixed background of business and technology. This is because more and more companies are realizing the technology itself is not enough. Employees must understand the business - how it operates, how it works, what people want and do not want, how to effectively market a product, how to lure venture capital firms to get funded, etc. Even with brilliant tech. and products, many companies still fail because they do not possess competitive business talents. Meanwhile, more companies these days tend to demand technical skills from candidates. It is not surprising to see a hiring post that requires coding experience, computer languages and skills to deal with certain software tools for a business position. Not one of the two elements can be omitted: fascinating products geared with cutting-edge technology, and business insight. Technology is not enough. New talents must know both.
In my case, I have some busin
ess background stacked from the study of economics and work experience as a buyer. However, I am not very confident with tech. skills such as Python. Picking up the fast-changing tools and techniques would be challenging. During MSAA program, this issue can be covered, but even after graduation, I will need to keep honing my skills. I am going to utilize engineers¡¯ community such as StackOverflow to deal with this issue. Within the company, I believe delivering my analytical results effectively would be challenging. How can I relieve my audiences¡¯ skepticism about my work? And how can I communicate them effectively about the highly technical analytical work? I believe the combination of storytelling approach, data visualization techniques, and utilization of communities, such as Toastmasters and public speaking meetups, to develop my speech would help me resolve this issue.
