1. Abstract
Healthcare is a tough and com
plex beast where few things are certain. But one of the few things about healthcare that most people agree on as certain is that preventative health care is necessary. (CDC Tips) For example, up to 40% of Americans die from preventative diseases everyday. (CDC Preventative Deaths) Put another way, had the patients involved known what their diseases were, they likely would have lived.
So what if patients could kno
w whether they should see the doctor or not? After all, if they were told ¡°you should really see the doctor¡± from a source they trust. That¡¯s what we set out to build: a wearable device that reads in information and returns a basic diagnosis.
Success Criteria
For our project to be success
ful, we would like to see the device be able to make diagnosis suggestions for diseases associated with a normal check-up from a general physician.
Using the p test requirements
common in medical science, a 95% recall and 95% precision for correctly identifying base rates. These base rates include heart rate and galvanic skin response, which will be used to infer other values like white blood cell count. Then inference rates need to also follow high (>65%) recall and precision values for recommendations. The former values come from being within two standard deviations and the latter values come from being within 1 standard deviation of bell curves.
2. Introduction
Purpose
The main purpose of this devi
ce, IoT (Internet of Things) body sensor, is to accomplish some of the tasks normally associated with a medical check-up. The device should serve a suggestion tool, telling users to seek out professional medical care based on sensor input.
Scope
The IoT body sensor can monit
or the user¡¯s health condition in real-time for the following measures: cholesterol level, heart rate, body temperature, blood sugar level, blood pressure, blood lipids, white blood cells count, and urinal acid level,
It performs the general/initi
al diagnosis based on the measures, and provide the result and suggested actions (such as informing health state, recommending the use of a certain medicine, or seeing a specialist) to the user, and
When the user¡¯s condition nee
ds urgent attention, it makes alarming sound.
3. General Descriptions
Product Functions Overview
The product should function a
t all times and in a fairly compact way given it¡¯s a wearable. Think of a Fitbit but on steroids, a device that¡¯s fairly small but with whatever extra heft is required to house new sensors.
We expect a moving average of
the last thousand or so timesteps to be used for diagnosis. The device should not do any diagnosis, rather it¡¯ll be accomplished on the cloud. Ideally, the sensory information should be streamed in real time.
