autobiography  by kil-dong, hong  
it is great honor to have this opportunity to introduce myself to you.i wish to undertake your m.s.program in graduate school of electrical engineering for fall semester of 1998.
i was born in seoul, the capital city of korea, on jul 01, 1971.during my high school years, i had a great interest in the field of mathematics and natural science, especially, electrical theory in physics, and i was an excellent student.my high school grades were so high that i was awarded an excellent prize during the period of high school years.
after graduating from hankook high school in feb 1989, i prepared myself for a college entrance examination and entered the department of electronic materials engineering at hankook university, which is one of the most competitive universities in korea, in march 1990.
while attending college, i received scholarship in my sophomore, junior, senior years due to my outstanding academic performance.in freshman year, in order to study more practically and theoretically, i entered semiconductor research club, which was one of the academic clubs in hankook university.when i was sophomore year, i was elected as a president of the semiconductor research club.during the club activity, i contributed articles about semiconductor processing and mos(metal oxide semiconductor) digital circuit design to the monthly magazine the electronic science from dec 1992 to mar 1993.in 1992, while i was attending the junior year, in order to study electronic materials more intensively and to learn the practical experimental method, i participated in the interuniversity research contest with the thesis of a study on the electromigration phenomena in aluminum thin films.in this contest, i made public myself about the thesis, and i awarded an excellent prize.
after completing my undergraduate work, i continued my study about the thin film engineering at the graduate school of department of electronic materials engineering in hankook university, receiving a teaching assistantship, i taught undergraduate students basic electronic circuit experiment, i was in charge of the experiment course for sophomore students.through this experience as an assistant, i could get a complete understanding of
the fundamental theories of electronic circuit and learned a teaching method.in 1995, when i was attended a first semester of m.s.program, i was taught the semiconductor processing and semiconductor digital design used by sun work station at isrc(interuniversity semiconductor research center) in best university from jul to aug 1995.i have handled ion implanter, furnance, rie, ribe, stepper and pr spinner etc in 5-class researched fab.due to the practical performance, i could do a research widely in the field of semiconductor device and processing, especially, related to the electromigration phenomena in thin film interconnection.during the m.s.course, from nov 1995 to feb 1997, as a pre-master researcher, i worked 50 hours per week in korea institute of science and technology(kist).i did a research with other junior and senior researchers on the properties of magnetic multilayered thin films and magnetoresistance effects in ferromagnetic and non-magnetic multilayered system in kist, resulted in publishing three researched papers, which was concerned with magnetoresistance and magnetic properties in nifeco/cu/nifeco/femn spin valve structures.i graduated from the graduate school of hankook university in feb 1997.the thesis of my masters degree is on a study on the new spin valve type nifeco/cu/nifeco/femn magnetic multilayered thin films with high magnetoresistance and low saturation field.

now, i have made up my mind to study my major more deeply in your m. s

program which has a fine educational background and good facilities together with outstanding faculty members in my chosen field. in korea, we are still lacking in lots of specialists and facilities in the electrical engineering field and need to make more r&d investment to that field


so far, i have made research on electromigration phenomena and magenetoresistance effects. now i would like to study solid state electronics and thin film engineering on semiconductor devices and microwave devices

as semiconductor devices and microwave devices are necessary elements in this scientific and technological society, all the advanced industrial countries in the world concentrate their attention on the development of new electronic devices for the prompt and accurate exchange of information in the modern society. it is my wish to participate in the development project of new electronic devices

my mental ability in analysis has been helpful to make experiments which need high level of accuracy.i quickly grasp the essential point of lectures and have a logical and mathematical way of thinking, so i am confident of my success in my major studies.

it has been my dream that i should be able to obtain my m. s

and ph. d

degree and to start a career as a professor or research worker here in korea.
