estimating failure rates and determining the optimum maintenance period of an equipment having multiple failure types

we are interested in estimating failure rates and determining the optimal maintenance period of an equipment when it experiences multiple types of failures. it is considered that the equipment undergoes periodic replacement and a specified number of incomplete preventive maintenance actions are performed during a replacement period

it is also assumed that minimal repairs will be made whenever the equipment fails. assuming that the time to failure follows a weibull distribution, the parameters of the failure rate are estimated using the maximum likelihood estimation

the optimal replacement period is determined to minimize the average cost per unit time. the proposed methods are applied to a hot-rolling equipment in k-steel works
