Owing to the industrialization, the urbanization and cultivation abandonment actual condition, the most abandoned farmlands increased. Those results have occurred inefficient land use and destruction of agricultural ecosystem with the secondary succession. The research for the abandoned farmlands of Korea is fundamental phase. Also, the researches to restore abandoned farmlands are something yet to develop and not established the restoration for ecological value of abandoned farmlands. The objective of research revealed the ecological functions of abandoned farmlands and it presented an application plan. The research method divided in the literature and case study. Using abandoned farmlands, Japan government tries to create the ecological parks for the conservation of a vulnerable plant species, dragonfly biotope, environmental education and research, etc. Accordingly, the goal for the abandoned farmlands coulds be set suitably to Korean situation as of Japanese styles which are characterized by man-made biotopes.

Fallow paddy areas have been increased due to the import of cheap agricultural product, and the unbalance between farming cost and rice price since 1990. In domestic, rice production control that decrease paddy field area has been introduced for the control of rice demand and supply and stabilization of rice price since 2003. Because of the desire of paddy field's owner to create benefit by using paddy for other object, fallow paddy would be continuously increased. In the other aspect, many people in the world is suffering from hunger because of the shortage of food. In case of Korea, continuous drought and flood damages will be potential concern of stable food supply. From this viewpoint, the increasing fallow paddy area needs to be protected from the devastation by weed breeding for the re-cultivation. In this study, fallow paddy managed with the shallow pools and shallows was selected fur monitoring and analyzing of water quality and plant body change. As the results, the managed fallow paddy found to be effective in the purification of water quality and the control of plant growth.

The present study was undertaken to classify and describe the weed communities of the fields in Korea by methods of the ZM school of phytosociology. On the basis of the data obtained, the following vegetation units were recognized: A. summer weed community of rice field A-1. Oryzetea sativae: Sagittario-Monochorietum, A-2. Lemnetea minoris: Lemna paucicostata-Spirodela polyrrhiza community B. spring weed community of rice field B-1. Bidentetea tripartitae: Stellario-Ranunculetum cantoniensis C. summer weed community of arable land C-1. Chenopodietea Pinellio ternatae-Euphorbietum pseudochamaesyceslsynonym: Acalypho australis-Digirietum pectiniformis and Cephalonoploso segetti-Geranietum eriostemonii of North Korea in Dostal´Ù et al.(1990)] and Phyllantho urinariae-Lindernietum crustaceae D. weed community of fallow field D-1. Erigeron sumatrensis-Erigeron anmus community, D-2. Digitaria adscendens-Portulaca oleracea community, D-3. Chenopodium album community, and D-4. Erigeron canadensis-Erigeron annuus community. Generally compared to the Korean Peninsula, the weed communities in the fields of Cheju Island is much plentiful in their species composition.

Owing to the industrialization, the urbanization and the nature devastation, decrease of rural population, there are lots of fallows and abandoned farmlands in Korea. Using these fallows and abandoned farmlands, Korean government tries to create the ecological parks for the nature conservation, ameniry, education and reserch. In this study, Mt. Worak National Park was selected for the mountainous rural type as a case study site. Emphasizing on various wild-life habitat restoration and creation. butterfly as representative species was chosen and established the plan of restoration and creation of the wildlife habitat to offer opportunity learning the diversity of wild life and the importance of the envirnment.

Tidal flat restoration was carried out from Apr. 2010 by opening the floodgates on the concrete dike, which was constructed for reclamation. The restoration site is about 2ha and located in the inner part of the bay (Ishibuchi in Shima city). Improvements were evaluated by monitoring sediment quality, benthic abundance and species diversity every season. Before the restoration, only 6 species of macro faunas, which lives in brackish water, were found. After the opening of the floodgate, the macro faunas was changed from brackish to saltwater and the number of species gradually increased. After 6 months, 22 kinds of juvenile fish, migratory macro faunas and small clams were found in the restoration tidal flat. At the same time, the COD and AVS in sediment decreased. in the restoration tidal flat.
