The purposes of this study are to define and classify material handling systems and to examine empirically the impact of specific automation systems with the causal relationships among material handling systems, the motives of introducing automation systems, and operational performance. Survey-based data for this study was collected from 184 Korean manufacturing firms and the measurement scales were tested and validated using confirmatory factor analysis, reliability test, structure equation modeling, and regression analysis. The results are as follows. First, the motives of introducing material handling systems are correlated with firm's business strategy. The types of business strategy are low cost strategy, flexibility strategy and marketing- intensive strategy. Second, the three types of business strategy have a positive impact on introducing material handling systems. And material handling systems also have a positive impact on operational performance. For the last, material handling systems mediate the impact between firm's business strategy and the operational performance. The mediating effect was proved through regression analysis, Sobel test, and the structure equation modeling. The result shows that the fit between firm's business strategy and material handling systems improves firm's operational performance. This study will offer guidance on how strategy and automation investment can be selectively matched to attain either profitability or growth.

Background : To cope with demands of ever-increasing test volumes, laboratories have implemented the total laboratory automation (TLA) system. The main goals of TLA are superproductivity, shortened turnaround time and universal availability of laboratory data throughout the hospital and/or hospital network. The TLA system was installed at Korea University Guro Hospital in 26th May 2008. To evaluate the benefits of TLA system, the comparative study between 26th May 2008 to 5th October 2008 and 28th May 2007 to 8th October 2007.
 Method : To evaluate the qualitative aspects, the turnaround time (TAT) analysis was carried out. To evaluate productivity of a TLA system, the productivity of a technologist and a laboratory person with and without TLA systems. To evaluate change of pattern of test order, sum of test order each a day of a week.
 Results : The turnaround times routine chemistry tests were 42.4 minutes, that of routine hematologic tests were 39 minutes, that of routine coagulation tests were 47.1 and that of routine immunologic tests were 91.5 minutes. The test numbers per technologist in Korea University Guro Hospital were 29089.6. The test numbers per laboratory personnel including physicians in Korea University Guro Hospital were 23163.9. 
 Conclusion : The laboratories with TLA installation showed much improved productivities in all categories analyzed, especially turnaround time. The TLA system would be the vehicle of the laboratory to gain the superproductivity without sacrificing the quality of laboratory.

Actually with executing the assembly test productivity and performance of assembly have been verified. In case of the automation assembly work for a ventilation grille is compared to the manual work. The optimum working speed has been identified to make the process twice or three times better.

The doctor blade is a core part of a laser printer and directly influences the printing quality. The main specifications for doctor blades ate for them to be precise and durable. It is necessary to study an automatic production system for doctor blades in order to obtain high-efficient manufacturing processes. In this paper, the technology and the design of the automatic production line has for manufacturing doctor blades has been researched. The automated manufacturing process consists of five steps, which are the supplying of raw material, shearing, bending, bracket supplying, and the laser-spot welding process. The proposed automatic manufacturing system allowed for faster and more reliable production of doctor blades.
