Almost all of the oriental hospital have a hard time recently because medical market has entered into ultimate competition period in Korea. Since suffering from long run of financial crisis after the currency devaluation, the exponential increase of oriental hospital have made administration of oriental hospital are getting worse. Although there are some hospitals which are interested in differentiation of strategy and characterization of treatment field in this circumstance, only a few of them have conduct it. In this study, we figured out the present situation and current state of oriental hospital by analyzing of medical market in this country. And according to the financial data of oriental hospital, we classified them into several groups which has same strategy.By comparing and analyzing data, we presented the implications on the administration strategy of oriental hospital. We believe that this study help to increase competitive power of oriental hospital for those who administer the oriental hospital in such a intense medical market.

Domestic pets market began to make a rapid quantitative expansion along with economic growth from the 1990s, and pet growing people's standard was also upgraded, which compelled the animal hospitals to attempt to provide quality interior, very expensive medical equipment, specialty-boasting treatment, and better quality service in order to meet the needs. The primary goal of the animal hospitals consists in providing medical service, and this providing of quality medical service requires a close look into the practice picture of animal hospitals. 10 animal hospitals in Seoul were selected, and of which 41,305 clinical cases in total for recent 1 year were analyzed based on International Classification of Disease(ICD) of WHO. Of the entire clinical cases, prophylaxis cases accounted for 42.2%, dermatology 16.4%, digestive system 12.0%, otology 8.5%, and respiratory system 4.3%. Among the 9,376 cases of internal diseases, digestive system diseases accounted for 4,957 cases (52.9%), respiratory system diseases 1,776 cases (18.9%), circulatory system diseases 1,239 cases (13.2%), and neoplasms diseases 413 cases (4.4%). Of the 6,774 cases of dermatology disease, pyoderma accounted for 3,387 cases (50%), the highest proportion, and next came external parasites with 826 cases (12.2%), dermatophytosis with 743 cases (11.0%), and allergic skin disease with 661 cases (9.8%). Among a total of 3,511 otology cases, otitis externa accounted for 3,180 cases (90.6%) and Ear mite 331 cases (9.4%). Of the 1,032 cases in ophthalmology, conjuntivitis accounted for the highest portion, with 826 cases (80.0%), and next came corneal ulcer 83 cases (8.0%), and uvenitis and keratitis 41 cases (4.0%), respectively. Frequently occurred diseases in the pets included pyoderma, which accounted for 8.2% of the entire practice, otitis externa (7.7%), and tracheobronchitis (3.7%). Initial expenses invested at the stage of hospital establishment included estate investment cost which accounted for 50% of the entire expenditure, the most part, then interior (19%), purchase of medical equipment (14%), and purchase of miscellaneous equipment (about 4%). In the estate investment expenses, to be specific, rental guarantee deposit accounted for about 50% of the entire estate cost, foregift (48%), and monthly rent (2%). Dividing the income of animal hospitals into medical service, articles selling, and pet-dog beauty, medical service accounted for 71.61% of the entire sales, selling of articles 16.86%, and pet-dog beauty 11.63%. Publicity work for the animal hospital was done mostly through web sites on Internet (47%), then through local advertising papers (23.5%), and through bulletins and telemarketing (11.8%). Manpower of the animal hospitals in this study was mostly composed of veterinarians(45.5%) up to about half of the entire staffs, while there was no veterinary technician who had specialized education in that area. This has a virtue of labor expenses saving through minimization of staffing but is imposing excessive works other than medical duties to hinder in attempting for qualitative improvement of medical service. Facility division of the animal hospitals was made of on average 2.7 medical rooms and 1.7 nursing rooms, while isolated nursing room was just 0.5 room, very poor in spite that isolated nursing room is inevitable where infectious diseases are raging, like in our country, thus it is required to enhance recognition on this. Some hospitals were interchangeably using the operating room and the radiography room, and general treatment rooms were poorly equipped, which also raise a necessity to secure efficient and specialized facilities. As to medical equipments installed in the animal hospitals in this study, Completed Blood Cell Counter (CBC), one of the comparatively high-priced equipments, was found in only 1 hospital, and biochemical analyzers in 8 hospitals, and urine analyzers in 3 hospitals, while no hospital had an electrolytes analyzer. X-ray equipment was installed in all the 10 animal hospitals. Ultrasonography was held in 8 hospitals but all were outdated ones as it is very expensive. Accurate and prompt diagnosis and treatment put much weight on a variety of analyzing equipments, but the guardians have low recognition and awareness on that clinical examinations and consequent increase in medical cost. As cost-benefit-ratios of high-priced equipments are not that high, equipments investment is being concentrated to just basic examination equipments. Like above findings, animal hospitals has to go well with not only medical practice but also various conditions to support those practices. It is required to identify and estimate present animal treatment status and future changes in advance, and attempt to upgrade medical capacity and efficient administration.

Objectives: This study was designed to explore the attitude and characteristics of hospital nurse¡¯s turnover intention using Q-methodology. Methods: Thirty-one nurses classified 37 selected Q-statements into 9 points standard. The obtained data were analyzed by using a pc-QUANL program. Results: Principal Component Analysis identified 3 types of the attitudes typology of hospital nurses toward turnover intention, and named by researcher. Type¥°is ¡®Private-oriented value¡¯, type II is ¡®Professional-driven value¡¯, type III is ¡®Complex conflict-aware¡¯. The findings of this study suggest that necessary to build up a model for decreasing of nurse turnover intention, and customized program need to be developed. Conclusion: Based on these results, the directions for future research were discussed.

This study has been aimed to provide the informations which are helpful in the control of nosocomial infection by identifying the knowledge of clinical nurses on nosocomial infection and the performance related with their nursing notes who are conducting important roles of infection control. The subject of this study was 360 nurses working in 4 national or public hospitals(2 hospitals had infection control practitioners while 2 not) and 2 university hospitals(1 hospital had infection control practitioner while 1 not) with 500-800 beds in Seoul and the materials have been collected through structured question for 31 days from September 20, 1999 through October 20. The tool for study was the structured question that had total 73 items with 6 items for general characteristics, 15 items for the tool of measuring infection control knowledge, and 52 items of performance measuring tool, and Cronbach's alpha=.9293 was performance measuring tool as the result of the examination of the reliability of the tool of this study. SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Science) Window program was used for the analysis of the data, and for items on the knowledge and performance the average and standard deviation were sought. T-test or F-test(ANOVA) were conducted according to the characteristics of variables to grasp the difference between knowledge and performance according to general characteristics of the nurses, and the variables which showed significant difference in the level of p<.05 tested by Duncan's after test method. The correlationship beetween knowledge and perfor- mance was sought by Pearson's Correlation Coefficient. The followings are the summaries of the results of study: 1) The knowledge on infection control by giving 1 marks to 1 items as full marks; the order was: urinary tract infection control(.91), level of Immune compromised host infection control(.83), intravenous therapy management(.82), surgical aseptic technique(.81), medical aseptic technique(.77), nosocomial infection definition(.76), disinfection and sterilization(.74), vancomycin resistant enterococcus infection patient management(.70), hand washing(.65), wound infection management after operation(.64), staff infection control(.60), methicillin resistant staphyloccus aureus infection patient control(.46), nosocomial pneumonia prevention(.44), infectious dissease designated by law management(.39), and isolation(.08). 2) The performance on infection control by giving 5 marks to 1 item as full maks; the order was sterilization and handling of aseptic supplies(4.17), washing hand area(4.11), intravenous therapy management area(4.07), respiratory therapy devices management (4.03), indwelling urinary catheter management(3.82). 3) In the comparison of the knowledge on infection control according to general characteristics, the difference of the knowledge was appeared by final educational background as the graduates from college or over(10.22) showed significantly higher than the graduates from junior colleges(9.46)(t=2.71, p=.007). 4) The comparison of the performance on infection prevention according to general characteristics showed that intensive care unit(4.22) appeared to be significantly higher than medical ward (4.01), surgical ward(3.96), and other ward(3.96) (F=9.993, p=.000). In the comparison of the performance by age there appeared significant statistical result that 35-46(4.18) showed highest performance followed by 25-29(4.06), 30-34(4.05), and 21-24(3.95) (F=3.397, p=.018). In performance comparison with or without infection control practitioners there showed statistical significance that the group without infection control practitioners(4.12) appeared to be performing higher than the ones without infection control practitioners(4.01) (t=2.56, p=.011). 5) There was positive correlation between knowledge and performance but there was very low correlation(r=.1345, p=.011). As this study has been conducted with the nurses working in medical organizations in the scale of middle class beds, I hereby wish to suggest that the study should be for large scale hospitals, and I think the development of standardized research tool that can measure the knowledge and performance on infection control and educational program for general nurses are requested.

This study used the DEA model, a nonparametric statistical analysis that overcomes the limitations of the parametric statistical methods, to analyze the management efficiency and publicness of regional bases public hospitals. For analysis, we selected 39 regional bases public hospitals. The results of the analysis on scale propriety for the management efficiency were effective in Icheon, Gangneung, and Geochang Red Cross hospitals, and the most ineffective place was the Hongseong medical center. In the case of scale propriety for publicness, Seoul, Daegu, Gangneung, Youngwol and Cheongju medical centers was the most effective and the Hongseung medical center was the most ineffective. And the correlation between the management efficiency and the scale efficiency index of publicness was 0.159, and the correlation between the two indexes was analyzed to be low.Nonparametric test was used to assess the effects of environmental factors on management efficiency and publicness. The results were as in the following. the proportion of the population aged 65 years, which is a population sociological factor, Efficiency and publicity. The proportion of medical benefit patients in the region has a negative effect on management efficiency and a positive effect on publicity. Among operating factors, emergency facilities operated by hospitals were harmful in terms of management efficiency, but they played a positive role in terms of publicity. On the other hand, the hospitals were analyzed that the effect of justice on management efficiency and the effect of wealth on publicity.

As the media advertising for medical clinics is increasing, research is needed to develop both regulatory policy and strategic guideline for creative advertising strategy. This paper aims to delve into how medical professionals and general consumers differ in terms of their attitudes towards the medical clinic advertising. And, it also explores how they differ in their responses to different ad appeals: informational appeal vs. emotional appeal. A survey was conducted on medical doctors and general public, and the results are as follow. Both respondent groups prefer emotional advertising. The general attitudes towards the medical clinic advertising affect the attitudes towards the advertisement shown in the survey, while emotional advertising exerts more influences with more attitudinal effects on the side of the general public.
