Today, parents face much difficultyin performing their role as parents with help from families or society due to the fact that our society is changing rapidly and both of parentsin work. Therefore, preschooler education institutions provide many different types of parents training programs in accordance with this trend.
But even though the educational institutions provide quality parents training programs, they waste time and budget due to a low parents participation rate and they are replacing it with school newsletters. Therefore, though teachers send the school newsletters containing helpful information about child education and preschoolers¡¯ activities in school, I was curious if it was being used as a part of parents training in their mind.
Therefore, the study examined if many school newsletters being produced by majority of preschooler education institutions are used correctly, suggested basic data for a better usage of school newsletters and the data were analyzed after survey.
The results indicated that majority of parents always read the school newsletters in usage frequency analysis, followed by the school newsletters are read since parents are interested in educational process and important information which allowed the researcher to understand that parents are more interested in educational process than previously thought.
Parents definitely read the school newsletters when it contained information related to their children which meant that it must be considered when making an important school newsletter though it is hard to do so.
They preferred the school newsletters published weekly on separate paper and they wanted information on preschoolers¡¯ sociality and their peer relation.
The reason why the school newsletters are read and differences of characteristics in sending methodaccording to the age of mom, level of income, main fosterer were looked into but there was not much difference against the prediction that there could be at least small differences, meaning that most parents are very interested in their child¡¯s education regardless of their current condition.
When the perception on the school newsletters and ways they can be improved were looked into, most parents responded that they should read them since it helps in child education, making concern that they consider it as a hassle was simply useless.
Parents preferred that greeting should be short and the main points should be concise which should be considered when sending school newsletters.
Parents wanted to find out how their children spend a day in preschool the most and they were also curious about preschoolers¡¯development characteristics according to their age and activities related to school work.
Finally, since current parents frequently utilize homepages and smartphones, they want delivery of school newsletter through IT related devices, an indication that there should be more study on that matter

This study was aimed to investigate the effect of School Information Letters on the attitude toward gender equality for elementary school students and their parents. This was randomized controlled non-synchronized study with 98 fifth-grade students of S elementary school and their parents. Students in the experimental group took five 40 minute ¡®s gender equality education of and their parents were given school information letters for parents including 5 times of home study. In the control group, only students experienced the same as that of the treatment group. Date was analyzed with different t-test using SPSS version 12.0. There was some difference in students' awareness of gender equality and mothers' child-care attitude toward gender equality between the treatment and control group. However, fathers of both groups who had taken part in this research made little difference. The education by school information letters for parents had the positive influence on students' awareness of gender equality and mothers' attitude of child care. According to this research, it is recommended to utilized school information letters for gender equality education. Further research is needed to show how to change fathers' attitude of child care toward gender equality.

The purpose of this study is to find the effects of the parent education using Educational letters on mothers' rearng attitude. Forthis purpose, the following research questions were established. 1. What kind of effects do the parent Education using the parent educational letters have on mothers' rearing attitude? 2. What are the differences between the two groups, which received the teachers' feedback as well as the parent educational letters and the group that received only the parent educational letters ? 3. What is the difference in the mothers' rearing attitude of the groups with the parent educational letters according to the mothers' scholarship, age, job, and children's sex? 4. What is the mothers' response to the parent educational letters ? The subjects of this study were 88 mothers with children in kindergartens located at Chongro-gu, Kwanak-gu, Dongjak-gu in Seoul. Mothers' rearing attitude is no different, statistically, between the two experimental groups and the control group in the group quality. Experiment was executed over a period of 15 weeks. Experimental group 1 received the parent educational letters, and experimental group 2 additionally received the investigator's and teachers' feedback. The Control group did not receive anything. After 15 weeks, each group took an post-hoc test about mothers' rearing attitude. In particular experimental group 1 and experimental group 2 were tested by a free-response type questionnaire to find whether the mothers' thoughts were changed, Test Inventory of this study was the MBRI that created by Schaefer, and translated by Lee, Won-Young(1983). The parent educational letters was quoted from <Mom, Daddy, Listen to Me>, among the Kindergarten education materials, published by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in 1995. The data was analyzed with Pearson's moment correlation coefficient, t-test analysis, One-Way ANOVA, Multiple Linear Regression, using an SPSS program The results of this study are as follows. First, the groups who received the parent educational letters showed more meaningful change in mothers' rearing attitude than the group who didn't receive the parent educational letters. To put it concretely, mothers who received the parent educational letters showed a higher score in mothers' rearing attitude of autonomy and affection than mothers who didn't receive the parent educational letters, statistically (F=19.404, p<.001; F=11.860, p<.001). In post-hoc test, the experimental group and the control group had a difference, too(p<.001). There are statistically significant differences in all variables - sub variables of autonomy and affection of the mothers' rearing attitude ¡© except a communication variable. Second, when the group not receiving teachers' feedback with the parent educational letters was compared to the group receiving teachers' feedback, the latter scored a little higher than the former onthe mothers' rearing attitude. To test this fact specifically, post-hoc test (Tukey-HSD) was executed to the rearing attitude of autonomy and affection among experimental groups and control group. The result was significant in autonomy(p<.05), but not in affection. It means there is some error coming from the treatment to get the results through a few teachers' feedback. Third, mothers' scholarship is correlated to mothers' rearing attitude (r=.29, p<.05; r=.46, p<.001). Namely, the mothers' higher scholarship was correlated to higher score in mothers' rearing attitude. In children's sex, males were significantly higher score than females in affection, statistically(t=2.71, p<.01). However, job and age were not significant. According to explanation of each variables, it showed that autonomy was 5.2%, but affection was 30.4%. Fourthly, mothers' responses to the parent educational letters are as follows. Among 60 mothers, 55(92%) mothers responded ' read well', 4(7%) mothers responded ' sometimes missing', 1(2%) mother responded ' not read'. Also, the 'read well' group gave reasons for their reactions such as 'to child education and rearing', 'to understand child', 'to introspect self,' and 'to read easily and naturally'. Additionally, most of the mothers responded to the relationship of mother and children to be advanced in rearing attitude such as interaction, intimacy etc. by the parent educational letters.

The purpose of this study is to analyze communication between school and parents using the 'letters to the parents', in order to examine possible areas of improvement for enhancing educational opportunities and school life adjustment for children from multi-cultural families. The letters to the parents used in elementary schools were analysed through genre analysis specifically for this study. At first, the Korean language textbooks for married female immigrants were investigated to see how many letters to parents were included in them. Second, letters to parents were collected to research their structure and content. They were categorized by the text type according to functions and speech acts. It is expected that the results of this study will be helpful for the Korean language education of married female immigrants.

This study was aimed to investigate the change of gender equality awareness among elementary school students and change of attitude of chile-care toward gender equality among their parents after gender equality education program using school information letters The study desing was randomized pretest and post-test control group nonsynchronized design. Study subjects were 98 fifth-grade students of S elementary school in P city and their parents took part in this research. Among four fifth-grade classes, two classes were randomly assigned to experimental group (50 students, 46 their mothers, and 49 their fathers) and two were control group (48 students, 47 their mothers, and 47 their fathers). The intervention for experimental group was providing five-time 40-minute gender equality education to students and giving school information letters to their parents after each school education. For the control group, only five-time 40-minute gender equality education was given to students. Data were collected with structured self-administered questionnaires and analyzed with t-tests and Pearson correlation coefficient using SPSS (win ver. 12.0) program at 0.05 signifiant level. There was statistically significant difference in students' awareness of gender equality (t=3.543 p=.001) and mothers' child-care attitude toward gender equality (t=3.339 p=.001) between the experimental group and the control group. However, fathers of both groups who had taken part in this research made no statistical difference. The education by school information letters for parents had the positive influence on students' awareness of gender equality and mothers' attitude of child care. According to this research, it is recommended to make a use of school information letters for parents when teachers at school teach their students gender equality.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine how effective the existing sex education programs and letter to parents from school were for their know ledge and attitudes towards sex of the middle school students. Methods: Subjects were selected from first grade students in a middle school from May 30 through July 19, 2005. The subjects were divided into three groups of 70 students each, two experiment groups and one control group. The study was conducted by nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design. The information letter from school to parents was made into four editions on double-sided A4 size paper and was handed out to students during weekly meeting. Both the students and their parents were required to read it and the parents were told to sign the papers. The sex education program applied in this study was recomposed based on the programs which were previously made by Sun Hee Park(2004) and Eun Ja Jung(2000). Content provided in the sex education program is identical to the one's in the information letter to parents. Experimental group 1 was required to read the four information letters to parents for two weeks, together with their parents. Group 2 experienced the sex education program four times in two weeks of time. The above two experimental groups and the control group were assessed on their knowledge and attitude towards sex twice, before and after the experiment. Results: There were significant differences in sexual knowledge about sex between the three subject groups and such data supports the first hypothesis. There was significant difference in attitude towards sex between the three subject groups and such data support the second hypothesis. Conclusion: According to the experiment results, both the information letter to parents and programs about sex education were effective for the middle school students. Yet, teaching students with the program format was more successful than handout formats. However, using information letters to parents to educate students does not waste any school hours, so if school nurses can provide the students more papers, the educational effect will be greater.

Second, in terms of the printing formats, teachers used to write a document by Hangul Word Processor. They edited a document with 10 point letter size of Arial fonts, sort by center, 160% line spacing, and three text colors. Both teachers and parents answered that this edit form is suitable.

This study was based on the concept that the ¡°plain language¡± policy is for people who cannot read well and those who do not speak Korean as their native language. In this paper, we suggest some ways to use plain language in elementary school newsletters from the viewpoint that the plain language use policy can contribute to the enhancement of Korean language communication between schools and multicultural families. In Chapter 2, we review previous research on school newsletters and plain language use policy. In Chapter 3, we present the methods of selection and analysis of data, and in Chapter 4, we suggest the practical use of plain language in school newsletters. So far, the interest in the research on school newsletters has been mostly in the analysis and education of the used language, not in the use of the language for the communication counterpart. However, there is a limit to teaching the parents of multicultural families under the existing framework of Korean language education or multicultural education so that they can fully understand the contents of school newsletters and communicate with schools. Thus, the use of plain language in school newsletters, in consideration of the counterparts to the communication, will be a meaningful alternative for enhancing communication in Korean between schools and multicultural families.
