본문내용

본 논문은 不忍人之心을 인간의 本性으로 삼았던 맹자가
전쟁에 반대했으며, 퇴계는 맹자의 사상에 따라 反戰論을 편 반면 효종은 맹자의 사상에 反해 北伐論을 펼쳤음을 보이는 것을 목표한다.맹자는 ?春秋?에 보이는 여러 전쟁들 가운데 義로운 전쟁은 없으며,나아가서 전쟁 자체가 義롭지 않음을 역설했다. 실상 맹자의 反戰論은不忍人之心을 인간의 本性으로 삼은 그의 생명존중사상에서 비롯되었다.퇴계는 사량진왜변을 일으킨 대마도 일본인들과도 화친을 맺는 쪽이戰禍를 피해 조선 백성들의 생명을 보전하는 길이라고 보았다. 반면에효종은 병자호란 이후 조선의 民生이 극도의 어려움을 겪고 있음에도 불구하고, 자신이 겪은 치욕에 대한 復?를 위해 북벌을 계획한다. 일찍이 맹자는 “百姓이 가장 귀하고, 社稷이 다음 가고, 君主는 귀한정도가 셋 중 가장 가볍다.”고 말했다. 따라서 孝宗처럼 君主가 자신과社稷의 복수를 위해 百姓을 전쟁터에 몰아넣는다면, 맹자가 제시한 귀한순서를 어기게 된다. 이를 통해 퇴계의 반전론이 맹자의 사상에 부합하며, 진정한 유학의 길임을 알 수 있다.

The first aim of this paper i
s to clarify that Mencius whoconsiders human nature to be good, and thus is against any wars.Secondly, this paper discusses the anti-war theory of Toegye whois considered to follow Mencius' way correctly. Thirdly, this paperis to show that King Hyo-Jong who planed to send the troops toconquer the north has to be considered as just war theorist andthus against Mencius.Mencius stated that there is no just war in the bibleSpring-Autumn. And he even went further that every war is unjust.His anti-war theory is based on his respecting life.Toegye claimed that Choseon dynasty should enter into friendlyrelations with Japanese of Tsushima island to protect thte lives ofChoseon citizen. On the other hand, King Hyo-Jong planed to sendthe troops to conquer the north to revenge for shame he earnedduring being taken hostage in Chung dynasty for 8 years, althoughthe life of Choseon citizen was very harsh and almost unbearableat that time.Mencius said earlier that citizen is the most precious, countrythe next, king the least. King Hyo-Jong is the monarch of countryof Confucianism, but he is certainly against the teaching ofMencius, because he respects his retaliatory spirit more than life of Choseon citizen. We can conclude that anti-war theory ofToegye coincides with that of Mencius and thus true way ofConfucianism.   (이하 생략)
