우리 현실문화로서 주목되는 문화 가운데 하나가 축제이다
. 축제의 기원을 설명하고 축제를 확산시키며 발전시키는 데 구비문학은 긴요한 구실을 할 뿐 아니라, 구비문학의 구연 자체가 곧 축제를 이루기도 한다. 따라서 구비문학이 지닌 축제성을 발견하고 축제에서 발휘되는 구비문학의 기능과, 구비문학에 의한 축제 만들기의 가능성을 찾는 것이 이 연구의 목적이다.
구비문학 가운데 설화의 축제적 기능으로는 사회적 관계
와 윤리를 뒤집어엎는 전도 기능과 커뮤니타스의 조성에 의한 해방 기능이 있다. 민요에도 윤리적 전도에 의한 도발과 정서적 해방으로 난장을 즐기는 축제성이 있을 뿐 아니라, 모내기 노래와 같은 교환창 민요에는 젊은 남녀가 마음껏 사랑을 나누는 축제의 짝짓기 기능과, 풍요다산을 기원하는 축제의 주술적 기능이 있다.
탈춤과 별신굿의 축제적 기능은 더 다양하고 적극적이다
. 제의적 반란의 전도와 커뮤니타스를 조성하며 성행위굿을 통한 풍요다산의 주술적 기능 외에, 직접 마을주민들을 굿판에 끌어들여서 축제다운 밀도를 높인다. 하회별신굿처럼 주민들에 의한 굿놀이와 탈놀이의 비중이 높은 굿일수록 축제적 성격이 더 강하다. 그러므로 하회별신굿은 곧 하회마을 축제라 할 수 있다.
풍물의 잡색놀이 사설과 극적 연행도 변혁적 전도와 인
간해방의 신명풀이를 실현하는 훌륭한 축제의 모습이다. 서사무가는 축제와 가장 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있는 구비문학 갈래이다. 서사무가가 불려지는 굿판은 바로 전통적인 축제 공간이다. 신화가 축제를 가능하게 하는 씨앗이라면, 전설은 축제의 성장을 돕는 거름이다. 전설을 통해서 축제의 의미가 확산되는 까닭이다.
크게 보면 구비문학은 축제에서 두 가지 기능을 한다.
신화와 전설처럼 축제에 의미와 전승력을 부여해주는 구비문학과, 민요와 탈춤, 판소리처럼 축제의 소재와 내용을 결정해 주는 구비문학이 있다. 따라서 구비문학은 축제의 중요한 자원이다. 그러므로 구비문학은 축제에 의미를 부여하고 전승력을 확보해 줄 뿐 아니라, 새로운 축제를 만들어내는 소재를 제공하는 구실까지 하는 것이다.

Therefore this article\'s purpose is to find a festivity of oral literature, a function of oral literature for festival and possibility of festival making by oral literature.
A festival function of folk t
ales is a liberation function that reform social relation and morals and make communitas. In the folk song we can also find several functions that not only create emotional release and festivity by moral falling down, but also as like sorcerous function, promote making love and pray abundance in the folk song as like exchange form.
A festivous function of mask
dance and Byulsin-gut is more various and spontaneous. These make a falling down of ritual rebellion and communitas, and make high sorcerous function pray abundance by means of a Gut of sexuality and density of festival. A festivous intensity is more powerful in the Gut that has many Gutnori and mask dance by village inhabitants as like Hahoe Byulsin-gut. Therefore Hahoe Byulsin-gut is the very the festival of Hahoe village.
The poetic diction of Poongmu
el Jabseknori and dramatic performance are a figure of festival that realize human release and communitas. A narrative shamanic song is the most similar oral literature with festival. A space that perform a narrative shamanic song, that is, Gut-pan is the very traditional space of festival. If myth is a seed that make possible to festival, legend is a basis that help growth of festival. Because the meaning of festival is spreaded by legend.
A oral literature work on two
functions in festival. One is to give a meaning and handing down power as like the myth and legend, the other is to decide a subject matter and content as like folk song, mask dance and Pansori and so on. So oral literature is a very important resource of festival. Therefore oral literature not only give a meaning to festival and ensure a power of handing down, but also supply a subject matter.   (이하 생략)
