In 1448, the Imperial house o
f China, Ming was afraid of the invention of Choson’s new firearms and attacked the firearm laboratory. Hae-san got his daughter ‘Hong-li’ escape with ‘Chong-tong-deung-rok’ which is the book that includes all about the invention of Sin-gi-jeon(the firearm) and exploded himself with Sin-gi-jeon that was almost done with its invention. The plan failed and Ming sent an armed agent that disguise as diplomatic corps and started searching Chong-tong-deung-rok and the daughter Hong-li.
A merchant ‘Sul-Ju’(Jung Jae-
young) who was thinking of participating in the trade with Ming to make some money ended up losing all of his money due to the wrong information. One day, Chang-gang(Hu Jun-ho), who is a guard of the King Sejong, came to Sul-Ju and asked him to take care of Hong-li who was full of secret for money. Sul-Ju who had made a deal with Chang-gan to enliven the business but realized that Hong-li is a key person to make the secret weapon Sin-gi-jeon. He was going to send her back but he was attracted to the power of Sin-gi-seon and started working on the invention of Sin-gi-jeon with his coworkers.
However, Ming that was narrow
ing its encircling net stole Chong-tong-deung-rok and the invention project got complicated. By the way, Choson didn’t surrender and Ming made a sally of 100,000 troops. Choson kept being pressured by Ming and orderd to stop creating Sin-gi-jeon. Sul-Ju who gave way to his anger disobeyed the King Sejong and started the fight to complete the invention of Sin-gi-jeon...
A small country Choson and th
e King Sejong that made the very first rocket firearm in the world, Sin-gi-jeon, that had been invented 300 years before Europe did. Even though even a huge country Ming didn’t even try to attempt to invent it, this kind of huge achievement is not well known to us nowadays. One of the most beautiful inventions just fell asleep after getting through this whole history of keen competition of neighbor nations. The movie revived a great part of our history on the screen and bring us a great pleasure. Especially a small country Choson had to give up its sense of self-respect 560 years ago from now and it reflects the situation we are in now that we are not completely free from neighbor countries. The movie tries to deliver our devotion and achievement from the history and it just inspires us.
